Invention Factory

Invention Factory is a 6-week summer program at The Cooper Union that teaches students to systematically approach inventing: how to develop an idea, research existing patents and create a prototype. A panel of judges, made up of design heavy weights such as Milton Glaser and Stan Lapidus, chooses the best inventions at a final review. The winning teams are awarded cash prizes, and have often gone on to continue developing their inventions. The program has proven to be wildly successful and resulted in a number of exceptional inventions including SutureSelf, an emergency stitch stapler, and the Dual-Flush Kit, which lets homeowners convert a single-flush toilet to a water-saving dual flush in a matter of seconds. I designed the logo and branding for Invention Factory as well as its responsive website. While clearly connecting the program to The Cooper Union, the design establishes Invention Factory’s own identity as a program dedicated to innovation. The site highlights the work of each student project using photographs, video and text.
